Hostinger VPS: KVM, AI Assistant, and hPanel

A concise review of Hostinger VPS hosting — KVM virtualization, plans, Kodee AI assistant, hPanel, and who it's for.

Hostinger is a Lithuanian company that grew from a startup into a global player with 5+ million customers. Their main feature: simplifying everything that can be simplified. VPS is no exception.

Plans (July 2026)

All plans run on KVM virtualization, AMD EPYC processors, NVMe disks, 1 Gbps port:

  • KVM 1: 1 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 50 GB NVMe, 4 TB traffic — from $6.49/month (promo)
  • KVM 2: 2 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 100 GB NVMe, 8 TB traffic — from $8.99/month
  • KVM 4: 4 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 200 GB NVMe, 16 TB traffic — from $12.99/month
  • KVM 8: 8 vCPU, 32 GB RAM, 400 GB NVMe, 32 TB traffic — from $25.99/month

Prices shown include discounts with a 2-year commitment. Regular pricing is 30–70% higher (KVM 1: $11.99/month, KVM 8: $49.99/month). Classic “hook them cheap, renew at full price” model.

What’s Interesting

AI assistant Kodee. A built-in AI helper in the panel that can help configure your server, install software, and diagnose problems. Runs on an LLM. It’s not a DevOps replacement, but genuinely helps beginners — you can type “install WordPress with SSL” and get step-by-step instructions.

hPanel. A custom control panel instead of cPanel. Visually pleasant, minimalistic. For those migrating from shared hosting — the learning curve is low. For those used to SSH and the terminal — it doesn’t matter, but it doesn’t get in the way either.

VPS API. You can automate deployment and manage infrastructure programmatically. Documentation is solid, code examples are provided.

Weekly backups. Free, automatic. Plus manual snapshots. For a VPS at this level — a nice bonus.

Pros

  • Easy onboarding. Sign up — get a server in under a minute.
  • AI assistant for beginners.
  • 1 Gbps network on all plans.
  • Data centers in North America, Europe, Asia, and South America.

Cons

  • Renewal prices sting. KVM 8 at $49.99/month is already Hetzner dedicated territory.
  • No hourly billing.
  • Traffic is capped (Vultr and DigitalOcean cap it too, but Contabo and OVH don’t).
  • The AI assistant occasionally gives useless advice.

Verdict

Hostinger VPS is great for beginners who want to try VPS without diving into the terminal. If you already know your way around SSH and Ansible — there are more interesting options for the money. But for your first VPS ever — an excellent start.

7/10.
