Bonanza: The No-Nonsense Marketplace — A Seller's Story and Affiliate Program Review

Bonanza review: an alternative marketplace for sellers — real experience, fees, comparison with eBay. Bonanza affiliate program in 2026.

Bonanza: How I Looked for an eBay Alternative and What Happened

At some point, eBay stopped being a marketplace for real people and turned into an assembly line of dropshippers and Chinese factories. A 13.25% fee, mandatory 5-10% promotion fees, endless bans for invented reasons. I started looking for a platform where a seller is a person, not a unit in a spreadsheet.

A seller acquaintance sent me a link: “Try Bonanza, they don’t try to screw you.” I tried it.

What Bonanza Actually Is

Bonanza is a Seattle-based marketplace launched in 2008 by Bill Harding. His idea: eBay is too complex and expensive for regular people. Let’s build a marketplace where anyone can list an item in a minute without an accounting degree.

Today Bonanza has around 35 million items from 50 thousand active sellers. Not an Amazon-level giant, but a stable platform. Main categories: clothing, home goods, collectibles, handmade.

How It Works: A Seller’s Experience

Registration takes three minutes. You list an item — fill in the title, description, photos. That’s it. No SKU codes, no variations, no barcodes that eBay forces you to enter.

Pricing is more transparent than competitors:

  • Free plan: 25 cents per transaction + 3.5%
  • Platinum (/month): 25 cents per transaction + 3.5%
  • Titan (/month): 25 cents per transaction + 3.5% + ad bonuses

The fee does not change with the plan! Platinum accounts get better visibility and access to Background Burner (automatic photo background removal), but the sales commission stays fixed. That’s honest: they don’t make you pay more for the right to pay less.

Compare with eBay: 13.25% category fee, plus 5-10% promoted listing, plus /bin/zsh.30 per transaction. On a item on Bonanza, you pay .75. On eBay — -23. That’s a four-to-six-fold difference.

What Stands Out

Automatic eBay import. If you already have an eBay store, Bonanza imports all your listings automatically via API. Takes 10 minutes — and your eBay inventory is on Bonanza. Price, availability, and description sync.

Google Shopping integration. Bonanza automatically submits your products to Google Shopping. Buyers come from Google search, not from the marketplace. This means less competition with other sellers and more organic traffic.

Human support. Unlike eBay, where support is a bot replying with templates, on Bonanza a real person answers. Sometimes — founder Bill himself.

Where It Falls Short

Traffic is the main issue. According to SimilarWeb, Bonanza gets about 3-5 million monthly visitors. eBay gets 700 million. Fewer conversions, simply because there are fewer buyers.

Categories — not all sell equally. Clothing, handmade, decor — good. Electronics, auto parts, B2B goods — almost no audience.

The interface looks like it got stuck in 2016. Functionally everything works, but visually it’s rough. The mobile app exists, but UX is far from ideal.

Bonanza Affiliate Program

The affiliate program runs through ShareASale. Commissions depend on category and action:

  • Seller signup: flat payout (-15)
  • Sale: percentage of transaction (varies)
  • Cookie: 30 days

Not the most generous program on the market, but niche. Works well with seller and collector audiences. Promote through YouTube reviews on “how to sell on Bonanza” or posts about eBay alternatives.

My Take

Bonanza won’t replace eBay — it’s not about that. But as an additional sales channel with minimal fees and automatic import — it works. If you’re a seller tired of eBay fees, give it a shot. It won’t make things worse.
